Why I don't encourage people to attend XU

...Because XU does things like this. And this. And this. And hires people like this who teach this.

I can't control what Xavier University does. But if someone asks me if I recommend attending XU, what I am supposed to do? Lie?

It breaks my heart.

Unfortunately, the University of Dayton is no better. It is indeed sad.

My daughter is now attending Ohio Wesleyan University, which long ago gave up any connection with the Methodists. We looked at public, private, and Catholic colleges in Ohio, and I was a little shocked by what I found at all the Catholic colleges we visited -- even though I thought I knew what they would be like. Some people seeem to come out of them as Catholics, but not the majority, and after you visit the campuses you can see why. Catholicism is an afterthought, or a part of their "tradition," and ALL of them emphasize service as their big "thing." HELLO. Been to any universities lately, folks? They ALL do that now. So if these Catholic colleges have a fond belief that their emphasis on service places them apart from the crowd, they're mistaken. And if you expect any of them to actually approach and try to make sense of the world from a Catholic perspective, you'll be sorely disappointed. I was glad she ended up at a secular university that at least didn't try to disguise itself as anything else. At least it's honest.

This is sad to see. I am not Catholic (Wisconsin Synod Lutheran), but when I was looking at universities to attend, my parents forbade the liberal Lutheran schools, and told me that a Catholic school would be much more conservative. I ended up going to a public university, where at least the un-Biblical things are not disguised in sheep's clothing.

My gosh! That is very shocking. It makes me worry about chastity, HIV, etc.
