I'm in the lowest pit of hell right now
...that is, in my reading of Dante's Divine Comedy. I might have finished this last "canto," or chapter, last night, but this is where Dante and his guide, Virgil, encounter the "king of hell," Old Scratch himself. So I thought those might not be the best images to have in mind as I drifted off to dreamland! To fortify myself for this last episode in hell -- before we move to purgatory -- I am having breakfast at Denny's.

Sounds like a good coping plan to me!
I recently read an "americanized english" version of Dante's Inferno and it made much more sense than it did in high school.
Are you a hostage? Go w/ the Grand Slam and then take some paregoric.
I'm out of hell now, and just entering purgatory. I doubt I'll get through before I get back to Ohio.
hoser: I've been lookin at several translations. I started with Longfellow, which is pretty obscure; I found a couple of versions online. I opted for a newer one by Stephen Wentworth Ardnt. Many recommend Anthony Esolen, but I couldn't get either his Inferno or Purgatorio in the kindle format.

Have you ever seen a version with the illustrations of Gustave Dore'? It is delightful! I think Barnes and Noble has it.
