And then there's John Paul II's dire warning in 1976

“We are now standing in the face of the greatest historical confrontation humanity has ever experienced. I do not think that the wide circle of the American Society, or the whole wide circle of the Christian Community realize this fully. We are now facing the final confrontation between the Church and the anti-church, between the gospel and the anti-gospel, between Christ and the antichrist. The confrontation lies within the plans of Divine Providence. It is, therefore, in God’s Plan, and it must be a trial which the Church must take up, and face courageously…”

So true Father.

I await your analysis of the synod. Of course we will have to hold off until the final report. The press summary and speculations are not reliable and slanted to one point of view.

There is a reason why John Paul II is a saint.

What a great piece of wisdom.

Thank you for reminding us of it and of him.

It is indeed a comfort in these troubled times.

Father Fox...thank you very much for this post. Cardinal Karol Wojtyla, subsequently Pope John Paul II, was intimately instrumental in bringing my best friend, a Priest, here, from Poland in the days when priests like Fr Jerzy Popiełuszko were being killed. His transit was aided by Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, in Poland, sundry "grey suits" from State and CIA, and definitively abetted by Cardinal Edmund Szoka, here in Detroit, may he RIP.

Yes, yes...there is definitely a reason for the sainthood. He stood up in dangerous days. He made a difference. A difference I can feel and will never deny ever again.

Father Fox....I see no email link for you so I have to ask here....sort of: I think I have mentioned before that my best friend is a local parish priest here (Detroit) ...the guy mentioned in my comment above in fact....and I have questions of faith I need to ask someone other than some one so close to me as Zbigniew is today. It is, however, important to both of us, and seems similar to your circumstances of not so long ago. If you are willing to communicate, please do so using my email address, which is in my profile. Anything said to me is only slightly more secure than the tightest held NSA information...but more important, it is what I need to ask you, whom I perceive as an unbiased but religious person.

Thank you for you time, either way. Take care.
