It's Palm Sunday again...

...On the local access channel here.

Most weekends, a volunteer tapes Mass at one of the two parish churches here, and that plays on Channel 10. But occasionally, no one does it, so the local access folks pull an old tape off the shelf; so I am watching myself offer Mass on Palm Sunday. The bare patch on the crown of my head keeps getting bigger, alas.

As it happens, even when we get Mass taped, the tape doesn't play for a week; the programming for the weekend is all lined up in the machines when the weekend begins.

I've noticed my spiritual director is getting more and more gray hair as time goes by. . . and I'm sure I am in no small way responsible! :-p

I am not suggesting thatyou would consider a comb-over father, but it is not a good look. I go with Fr Kyle - a shaved head is cool.

Yepp, shave it and worry not about it...that's what I do, after all, it's biblical:

"Thou shalt not wrap your hair like the infidel wraps a towel. Thou shalt show them that you are mine by circumcising you hair even if they were to think you were a chemo patient." Leviticus, Page one hundred and something or another.

While Fr. Kyle has a great answer, I was thinking that you could just tell people you're considering becoming a Franciscan and you're trying out a real tonsure!

With misgivings about giving the Cardinal Mahony Anti-Fan Club more ammunition, I do recall several years ago when the USCCB taped an Easter Mass during the fourth week of Lent in LA with the archbishop so it could be broadcast in a timely way at 5AM Easter morning.

I suppose it's too much to ask that the three-year Lectionary cycle be kept in the storage vaults of the public access stations.

The Archdioces of Washington tapes its masses for the homebound in advance so they air on the propper days.

It would be great if people could accept themselves and others as is - bald, grey, young, old, fat, thin. As long as one is clean, appropriately dressed (nothing showing that others don't want to see), well-groomed, and well-behaved, this goes a looooong way. In random photos from pre-1960s notice how whole crowds of people look very nice, simply because good grooming was the norm in those times. Minor flaws did not stand out. Of course it helped people look good before there were combovers, tattoos, magenta hair-dye, ads-on-clothing, skull jewelry, bellyshirts, low-rider pants, etc. (Wonder how many I'm offending now, ha!) Relax, Father, a bald spot is the least of our culture's worries!

Hey anon!

I have a growing bald spot as does my younger brother (two of my parents' nine sons who are balding, and I had to be one of them. :) )

I keep telling him not to sweat it. The secret is to keep your hair well trimmed and never comb-over!

I also try to remind him that Michael Jordan and Patrick Stewart are both very attractive men with no and little hair, respectively. I admit, Jordan shaves his head, but who's to complain? He looks great!

We do put too much emphasis on appearance. So I have a thin spot. At least something on me is thin! :)

Ya gotta love techology -- or, not...(personally I have a love-hate relationship with it)!
The monks & friars of the Middle Ages would assume you shaving obediently, if not perfectly. Seriously, though, Fr. Francis Mary of EWTN fame would just love ya; give him a call/email--regular great guy, just like you!!
